North West Kent Volunteer Centre, which is based in Twisleton Court, Priory Hill, Dartford has been awarded the first ever Bluebird Care Gravesham & Dartford Community Grant.

North West Kent Volunteer Centre, received a cheque for £500 from Bluebird Care on 4th May in recognition for the work the group does in providing a number of services for elderly people including befriending, gardening and a community transport service.

The Volunteer Centre also guide people wanting to volunteer, through the many opportunities within the community to match them with the right organisation and the right volunteering placement.

Lorna Kahan, Chairman at North West Kent Volunteer Centre said:

‘Our befriending service is a great way of helping lonely, isolated people living in their own homes to become an active part of their community.

The demand for this service is getting greater so the need to recruit and train new volunteers is essential to the success of the service.

This community grant will go towards training and travel for our new volunteers. Any help with funding is gratefully received.’

About the Bluebird Care Community Grant, Gill Stoddart-Rye, Care Manager, said:

‘The Volunteer Centre does fantastic work in the local community and although there were a number of other very worthy charities who applied, the volunteer centre’s application received the highest number of nominations.

Our Community Grant Scheme is a positive way for us to support and recognise the great work of our local charities and I am delighted to be able to have a part to play in reviewing the applications we receive’.

For further information about how to apply for the next grant, to be awarded in July, please contact Nathan Brown on 07808 253 556 or email nathanbrown@bluebirdcare.co.uk.
